MORE NEW BOYS

Jay McEveley - James “Jay” McEveley started his career as a youngster at Everton but found
his ways to Blackburn Rovers as part of the academy side.

A strong and mature left-back Jay made his break through into the Rovers first team in the 2002-2003 season. Making his full debut in a League Cup tie in November 2002, the then under-17 Rovers captain subsequently went on to make nine Premiership appearances.

Having represented England at under-20 and under-21 levels, playing in the 2003 World Youth Championships, McEveley switched alliance in 2006 when deciding his International future lies with Scotland; now playing for them at under-21 level, making his “B” debut in November 2006.

Loan spells at Burnley in 2003 and Ipswich Town in 2005 have given Jay more valuable first team
experience but he was looking to further his claims in the 2006-2007 season.

With first team experience already behind and Jay looking very comfortable when he has played, when Lucas Neill left, Jay was hoping to be one of the first in line to replace him in the left-back position. However the signing of Steven Warnock made it almost inevitable Jays future lay away from Ewood Park.

Tyrone Mears - In the summer our board said we only needed to sell one player to balance the books (the same as every summer at our club!) We sold Claude Davis to Sheff Utd for £2.4 million.

About a week later Mears basically caused unrest when his agent said he had been approached
by a Premiership club to play for them. Preston intially had no official approach, then they came out and said they have no need to accept any offers but the final straw was that Mears basically said he was unhappy at the club - his agent pretty much instigated the move as an excuse for him to play at the top level. As per usual we did quite well getting around £1 million for a guy who has hardly played this season!

Pacey full back who can also play on the wing. Right footed player who spent several seasons at Deepdale.

Very injury prone only playing consistently last season when he played 20 games or so before his ego and agent got the better of him for higher status football. If he keeps fit he can do a job.

Yes he is good going forward and not so good at defending!

Darren Currie - Darren is a player with undoubted abillity, he has a good cross on him, and is a set piece expert with a good shot. He was nicknamed the David Beckham of the lower leagues and even went on Trial at LA Galaxy earlier this month where he could not win a contract.

The downside with Darren is, whilst technically gifted, he is a bit of a one trick-pony in some peoples eyes. He can cross, but has little to no pace and contributes nothing defensively to the team. He is a very poor marker, and has a tendency to be lazy at times which can make him a bit of a luxury player.
