NEW BOYS REVISITED
The New Boys section of Ramspace (and previously BBF) has long been
a popular area of the site. Here, for the first time, we revisit the
original comments made by
our correspondents from other clubs and see how
accurate they were.

Matt Oakley
Our Survey said -
"Overall, a player that many fans liked, but also one that many fans
feel totally indifferent to." "He
was never a strong tackler, but a good reader of the game" "For a
player with such good technical ability, he really should have
scored more goals. When he did score, they were usually long
range efforts"
"A bit
like Kevin Davies at Bolton, he could well thrive in new
surroundings"

The Reality - Credit where credits due, our Saint
man knew his stuff. Matty was a great signing who just got better as
the season went on. It will be interesting to see how he gets on
back in the Premiership. Whether anyone notices is a different
question.
Ryan Smith
Our survey said -
Arsenal said- "Ryan
Smith has good pace, great feet and is more than capable of making
the
grade at Championship level and beyond. Very level headed lad and a
good young professional"
Leicester said - "He
is a good player no doubt, but he is not mature enough yet, maybe
Billy Davies will be able to control him, but he is the type of
player who gets mardy if he is left off the team sheet"
The Reality - Whilst he definitely had something
about him, it was basically a mardy, immature, uncommitted attitude.
A definite flop who now looks set to drift into the lower divisions.
Leicester 5 Arsenal 0.

Steve Howard
Our survey said -
"Howie
will get you about 15-20 goals at this level. He is really a
target man though – every week we used to lob balls up to
him to control. He’ll win most defensive headers and has
bags of strength." "Howard was a hard-working striker
who’s contribution to Luton Town has been
outstanding."
The Reality - He got 19 goals. We also
banged loads of balls up to him to control. Stevie's
contribution to DCFC was indeed outstanding. A DCFC legend
already.
Arturo Lupoli
Our survey said -
"Arturo is s
slight striker, with good movement & instinct who has a good chance
to make the grade at Arsenal" |
| The
reality - Often struggled with the
physical nature of the Championship but was an awesome
finisher who was criminally under used by Billy. Still we're
in the Prem now so who cares. As for Arturo, he's got no
chance of making the grade at Arsenal as he's fucked them
off for Fiorentina! |
