Darren Moore -
Without a doubt, Phil Brown’s best signing although Brown was sacked
before Big Dave’s debut. Did the simple, ugly parts of defending
very, very well to see off the threat of relegation in his first
season. He survived an early Davies cull (a move to Coventry
collapsed) before doing exactly the same in the Rams promotion
charge.
Best Moment:
His late diving-header-in-crowded-box equaliser against QPR in the
promotion season. Typified his attitude and spirit. It also typified
what was lacking in others
Worst Moment:
Failing to complete a 5 yard pass for Arsenals opener in May was a
sad exposure of his limitations.
David Jones -
Jones was one of the few (only?) ball-players in the promotion side
and there was an unmistakeable mark of class about him. Initially a
golden boy of Davies but an outcast in the Premier League until
Jewell took over. Was always going to struggle in a team devoid of
confidence but still showed some quality.
Best Moment:
His spectacular injury time free kick against Sheff Wednesday.
Worst Moment:
Running out of steam in the promotion run-in. Jones was dropped in
favour of Seth Johnson for the play-off’s.
Craig Fagan -
Signing Fagan was possibly the point when everything began to go
wrong. No one could doubt Fagan’s workrate but he couldn’t score,
beat his man or cross a ball. Not good for a winger-cum-striker. One
league goal in 1 ½ seasons says it all.
Best Moment:
Giving Hreidarsson the run around against Pompey first game of last
season…
Worst Moment:
…then needlessly stamping on Liverpool's Arbeloa three games later
and earning a four game ban |

"...hello is that
Barnsley? Derby County here,
how much would you sell Darren Moore for?"

Fagan's notoriously appalling decision making
came to a head when the club chef asked him to
choose between pasta and poached eggs for lunch. |
